Abu Dhabi to Launch Yas Island–Airport Tram Line
Abu Dhabi is set to introduce a new, high-speed tram line connecting Yas Island to Zayed International Airport, cutting travel time between the two major destinations to just 20 minutes. Designed for fast, reliable, and eco-friendly transport, the Line 4 Tram will connect key tourism, residential, and business hubs across the capital while reducing dependence on private cars.
The new tram route, developed by the Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADT), was unveiled at the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition and Conference. Officials highlighted that the service will form a crucial link between Yas Island attractions, residential neighborhoods, and future high-speed rail hubs — creating a smoother travel experience for residents and visitors alike. With trams running every five minutes, Line 4 promises efficient and congestion-free mobility. During major events, trams will operate in pairs to carry up to 600 passengers at once, ensuring seamless access to destinations such as Etihad Arena, Ferrari World, and the upcoming Disneyland Abu Dhabi.
According to Saeed Salem Al Suwaidi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Transport, the project represents a fundamental shift in how mobility is viewed. He explained that modern transport is no longer just about reaching a station or stop, but about ensuring a seamless journey that connects every aspect of daily life — from homes and schools to workplaces and leisure destinations. AlSuwaidi emphasized that the goal is to create a unified travel experience where passengers focus solely on reaching their destination, without worrying about transfers or different modes of transport.
The Line 4 Tram is expected to play a vital role in supporting daily commutes, tourism, and the city’s sustainable urban growth. It marks the beginning of several upcoming light rail and high-speed transit projects that will position Abu Dhabi as a regional leader in smart, sustainable urban transport.
